Why Messy Play Matters More Than Tidy Rooms

Why Messy Play Matters More Than Tidy Rooms

A calm bedtime starts long before the lights go out. In our nap rooms, the same few steps happen in the same order every day, and children quickly learn what comes next.

Here are the five routines our carers use most, and how to try them at home: a warm bath, the same song, a short story, a dim room and a goodnight ritual that belongs only to your child.

A Cleansing Hot Shower Or Bath

A warm bath about an hour before bed helps the body wind down. Keep it short, keep the lights low and save splashy games for the morning.

Setting The Mood With Incense

Soft light and quiet sounds tell little ones that the day is ending. A night light and a familiar lullaby work better than any gadget.

  • Keep bedtime within the same half hour every night.
  • Dim the room and keep voices soft.
  • Read one short story, slowly, in the same chair.

Children sleep best when bedtime feels the same every night, wherever they are.

If your child naps at Hibokids, ask their key carer for the routine we use; repeating it at home makes the evening easier for everyone.

This worked for us! Same song every night and she is asleep in ten minutes.

Lovely post. We started the story routine this week and it already helps.
