Questions & Answers
Panels, batteries, turbines, surveys and ways to pay.
Solar Panels
About 70% of a roof can carry modules; each 440 W module covers 1.95 m². A 32 m² roof takes 11 modules; the survey measures the real roof.
Installed price is £1,150 per kWp plus £1,600 for scaffold, inverter and commissioning, with 0% VAT. Our Family package (12 modules and a 5 kWh battery) is £10,570.
A typical home here pays a system back in about 7.1 years; the calculator works it out from your own roof and bill.
Yes, at a lower output: modules turn daylight, not heat, into power. Our live output in the top bar shows a Bristol roof right now.
Batteries & Charging
Without one a home uses about 45% of what its roof makes; a 5 kWh battery takes that to 70%, a 10 kWh battery to 82%.
£2,900 for 5 kWh and £4,600 for 10 kWh, fitted with the system or later.
Our 7 kW charger tops up from the roof first, then the battery, then the cheapest hours of the grid.
Wind Turbines
A turbine needs a mean wind of about 5.5 m/s at hub height to pay; we measure for three months first.
A 50 kW turbine at a 6.6 m/s site makes about 170 MWh a year.
Turbines usually do; we prepare the noise, visual and ecology reports and handle the application.
The Survey
A surveyor measures the roof, checks the shading, the loft and the fuse board, and talks through your bill: about 75 minutes.
Monday to Saturday at 9, 11, 1 or 3, from 2 to 28 days ahead.
Across the South West and South Wales: Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Taunton, Swindon, Newport, Cardiff, Exeter, Salisbury.
Paying For It
A green loan at 6.9% APR over 5, 10 or 15 years, 0% over 12 months with a 25% deposit, or pay per kWh with nothing upfront.
We assume 15p for every kWh you send to the grid; your supplier's rate may differ.
Installed solar and batteries carry 0% VAT. Products in the Energy Store include 20% VAT.
