Brass Akhand Diya
A deep ghee well on a cast brass stand, made to burn through the evening aarti. The wick sits in a raised cup so ghee never spills onto the shrine, and the base is wide enough to stand on a plate of flowers.

Akhand means unbroken. This is the lamp families keep lit through a festival night, a vrata or the first days in a new home. It is cast in one pour from recycled temple brass by a family of founders in Moradabad, then turned and polished by hand.
Each lamp is placed before the deity at Mandira and blessed at the evening aarti before it is packed, with a card explaining the prayer said over it.

Wipe the lamp after each use while it is still warm. Once a month, polish with a paste of tamarind and salt, rinse in warm water and dry at once. Use pure ghee or sesame oil and a cotton wick; never leave a lit lamp unattended near cloth.
Heavy, well made, and it burns for the whole aarti on one filling. The base does not get hot.
Bought the large one for our new home. Polished up beautifully with tamarind, as the card says.
Lovely lamp. The small size is smaller than I pictured, so check the measurements first.
