How A Shoot Runs

Six steps from the first call to the files.

From The First Call To The Files

Six Steps, About Three Weeks

A house takes about three weeks from the first call to the finished set; a tower with twilight and aerial, five.

  1. The photographer walking a site with a camera01

    The Recce

We walk the site and the drawings: the facades, the rooms, the approach and where the camera can stand.

    Week 1
  2. Power lines against a pink sky at dusk02

    The Sun Study

The hours the sun is on each facade, the sunset and the blue hour, worked out for the day and the site.

    Week 1
  3. Kade House, a corner of pale timber against the sky03

    The Shot List

Every view agreed with the architect before the day, with its viewpoint, its lens and its hour.

    Week 2
  4. Framing a view on the camera's screen04

    The Day On Site

Exteriors while the sun is on the facade, interiors room by room, twilight at the blue hour.
