Questions & Answers
Raw honey, batches, shipping, courses and hives.
Raw Honey
Our honey is spun from the comb, strained through a coarse cloth and jarred. It is never heated or fine-filtered, so the pollen, the flavour and the enzymes stay in.
Every raw honey crystallises in time: the more glucose, the sooner. Apple blossom and goldenrod set within weeks, black locust stays runny for years. Stand the jar in warm water to melt it.
They are the USDA grades on the Pfund scale, measured in millimetres: water white is the palest (black locust, 7 mm), dark amber the darkest (buckwheat, 140 mm).
For years; we print a best-before 2 years from the harvest. Honey keeps when its water is at or under 18.6%, and every batch is measured.
Batches & Tracing
On the lid and under the label, written by hand: AP, the year of the harvest and three figures, like AP-26-126.
The honey, the apiary and how many of its hives were harvested, the beekeeper, the harvest, extraction and jarring dates, the jars filled, the water content and the best-before date.
The apiaries are working farms, but every course meets at one of them: the Orchard, the Meadow, Linden Row or the honey house.
Shop & Gift Boxes
Orders over $60 ship free; under that, shipping is $7, express is $16, or collect from the honey house for nothing.
Use BUZZ10 at the bag for 10% off your first order.
Yes: build it on the gift boxes page, a honey for every jar. A full box takes 10% off the jars.
Yes, in its own box with a lid, packed upright. Keep it at room temperature, never in the fridge.
Courses
No: suits, veils and gloves can be hired for $15 a person on every course in the apiary; children's suits are included on Little Beekeepers.
Every course runs several times a season; the course page shows the next dates and the seats left on each.
Rarely, in a suit and with calm handling; tell us about any allergy when you book.
Up to 4 in one booking, as long as the date has the seats.
