Engines By Train, Not By Sea

Kestrel Automotive, Duisburg to Xi'an.

Trailers and a yard tractor from above

The Challenge

Kestrel builds engines in Duisburg for an assembly line in Xi'an. By sea they spent five weeks on the water and the line kept three weeks of stock to be safe; by air the cost ate the margin.

What We Did

Two forty-foot high cubes a week on the China - Europe block train, collected from the plant on Monday, at the terminal by the cut-off, cleared at the border without opening the seals.

  • 01Collection

Monday morning from the plant in Krefeld.

  • 02Block Train

    Duisburg to Xi'an, 2 - 22 days.

  • 03Delivery

To the line, the boxes returned empty to the terminal.

The Result

  • -12 daysdoor to door against the sea
  • -38%freight cost against air
  • 44pallets a week, tracked every hour

Our engines used to sit five weeks on the water. By train they are at the line in eighteen days, tracked every hour.
