Questions & Answers
Estimates, schedules, rights, licences and files.
Estimates
Each piece is its type's rate (a character $420, an environment $680, a prop $160 at clean concept) times the complexity: a sketch is 0.45 of that, a final render 1.9 times. Turnaround and extras are added on top.
Yes: 6% off the pieces from 10 of them, 10% from 20.
40% of the estimate books the artists' weeks; the rest is due on delivery.
2 rounds on every piece, at the sketch and at the colour stage.
Priority puts an extra artist on the brief for 25% more and takes about a third off the days; rush starts the next working day for 50% more and halves them.
Licensing
A commission is new work painted for you. A licence lets you use a piece that is already painted, for one use, in a territory, for a term.
Each category has a base value (a character $360, an environment $640); the use, the territory, the term and the print run multiply it, and exclusivity adds 1.75 times.
The artist keeps the copyright. A commission's buyout or a licence's terms say exactly what you may do with it.
Licences are delivered by email, so tax follows your billing region: 20% in the United Kingdom, 21% in the European Union, none elsewhere.
Files
A full-resolution PNG and a print-ready PDF of every piece. Layered source files are an extra on the estimate.
