Every so often a weekend arranges itself. No events, no weddings, the weather holding, and eleven rooms of people who had all, separately, decided to do nothing in particular.
We do not usually photograph guests and we did not this time either. What is here is the building and the water over three days in the middle of August, taken on whatever was to hand, mostly at the wrong time of day.
The Order Of A Day Like This
Swim before seven while the bay is flat. Breakfast that runs into the middle of the morning because nobody clears the table. The walk down to the rocks at four when the terrace has gone too hot. Then the part that is hard to photograph, which is the two hours after that.
The last picture is the seaward elevation at about half past eight, which is the only time of day the render looks the colour it actually is.

We were there the week before you closed in 2024 and the whole place already felt like it was bracing for something. Now I understand what. Worth every euro of the shoulder rate.

Seconded. We asked at the desk what happens in January and got a twenty-minute answer from somebody who clearly loves the building.

The detail about re-pointing the sea wall by hand is the kind of thing nobody would ever put in a brochure. Thank you for writing it down.
